Thoughtful Thursday ~ {12/3/09}

The Prompts from MamaKat:

1.) Verse by verse, dissect a favorite song you had in 7th grade.

The year was 1986. I was in 7th grade. And I had the hugest crush on him:

Isn't he like, the cutest thing ever?! I mean, like totally.

*Swoon*

I tried to friend him on facebook a year or two ago.

Bastard Denied me.

Ah-hem, where was I?

Oh, yes 1986. And the cutie pie pictured above and I had woodshop together (Yes, woodshop. It was a required class. Don't judge.)

And cutie pie came into class every day listening to this album:
Licensed to Ill by The Beastie Boys

So, if cutie pie listened to it, you can bet your ass, I was going to listen to it!

You can not have lived through the 80's and not know this song:

You Gotta Fight For Your Right

YEAH!
KICK IT!

You wake up late for school - man you don't wanna go
You ask you mom, "Please?" - but she still says, "No!"
You missed two classes - and no homework
But your teacher preaches class like you're some kind of jerk

Who didn't want to stay home from school? And of course, you always had to go. Back then we all thought we knew it all, so of course all of the teachers preached at us, and talked down to us.

You gotta fight for your right to party

You pop caught you smoking - and he said, "No way!"
That hypocrite - smokes two packs a day
Man, living at home is such a drag
Now your mom threw away your best porno mag (Bust it!)

OK, so I was never interested in smoking or porno mags, but I sure felt like a total bad ass listening to The Beastie Boys singing about them.

You gotta fight for your right to party
You gotta fight

Don't step out of this house if that's the clothes you're gonna wear
I'll kick you out of my home if you don't cut that hair
Your mom busted in and said, "What's that noise?"
Aw, mom you're just jealous - it's the Beastie Boys!

What teenager didn't get told what to wear, and that their music was too loud?

You gotta fight for your right to party
You gotta fight for your right to party

I don't think that there is any teenager in the world that can't identify with that song.

2.) List 5 must have gifts you are purchasing for a loved one this Christmas.

All of the loved ones that I will be purchasing gifts for this Christmas read my blog, and I don't want to just out and out tell them what they are getting. So, that leaves the dogs because, well, you know, they can't read. (But don't tell them that. The truly do seem to believe that they are mostly human.)

So, 5 things I am buying (or actually have bought. How sad is it that the only shopping I've done thus far is for the dogs?) for Zoe and Lexi:

1. New Rope Toy
2. New Rubber Squeaky Toy
3. New Chew Toys
4. Rawhide Bones
5. Treats

3.) Open letter to Santa Claus.

I'm going to pass on this one.

4.) Describe how you would celebrate the holidays if it was totally up to you and money was not a factor.

I'm such a total scrooge, but if it were up to me I wouldn't celebrate the holidays. If I had no obligations, and money wasn't a factor, I'd probably choose to take the month of December off, and spend it on a tropical island soaking up the sun, sand, and surf. Ahh. Now that's a holiday!

5.) Book review time! What winter read has you snuggled in and turning pages?

Cosmo? Does that count?

I love to read, but somehow I've not managed to find the time to read an actual book in forever. I'm still in the middle of a book that I started back in May. That is so unlike me! First I was busy with the dogs, when they were puppies. Then I was busy with The One, when we first started dating and did the long distance thing. Then I was busy with school. Now, I'm busy with school, and wedding stuff. Ugh. This prompt is depressing me. I WILL get back to reading. Soon!

First, yes, I think you are right...every teenager CAN relate to that song, I am sure. I laughed reading the words. I laugh reading the words to all of these songs that us young girls at one time listened to.

Your not alone in the book reading category. I want so bad to find the focus to read a book, a novel...and I seem unable to ever find the time. I have historically had 5 or 6 books going at a time and had them all opened half way for a year at a time. Not kidding.

I'd love to join in on your guest blog offer...but I'm a 40 something single Mom who has yet to marry....perhaps my hope of STILL finding "the one" and getting married. :)

Allegra Posts for Rose ~ Thanks for stopping by! What's even funnier is reading the lyrics as an adult and realize that what they are really saying is NOT what you thought they were saying back then. Good luck with the reading. If you are interested in being a guest blogger, that would be great. I'm sure we could figure out something that would work.

Mrs. Lovely ~ I know, right? I am better offer. I bet he's fat and bald by now.

Goose ~ I hated that class. Cutie pie was the only thing that made it tolerable.
