True Confession Time: I weigh just a wee little bit more than I did when I purchased my wedding dress.
Like 10 lbs more.
The dress at the bridal store was the same size as the dress that I ordered, so I knew exactly how it was going to fit. When I had it on back in October it was just a tiny bit snug, but the sales associates said that the next size up would be way too big. So, it was better to order the smaller size and let it out just a tiny bit if necessary. They assured me that the alteration could be done very easily and without it being noticeable because of the design of the dress. However, I really wasn't worried because I knew I was planning on losing weight before the wedding anyway.
Fast forward through Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and a cruise and I've packed on a few pounds.
Whoops.
It's not earth shattering, but I'm also not thrilled with myself about it. Especially since I'd already slowly put on about 10 lbs over the past year or so. Even 20 lbs heavier, I'm still not "over-weight" but none of my clothes fit and I feel pretty darn miserable with my pants digging into my waist and my bra cutting off my ability to breathe!
When I went to pick up my dress a few weeks ago, I tried it on in the store. I knew I'd gained the weight and I knew it was going to be tight, so I was prepared. It zipped up just fine, but it was extremely uncomfortable. It also wasn't laying like it should, and I'm not sure that enough alterations could be made to accommodate my extra 10 lbs.
So, they won't have to!
Effective immediately (or actually 2 weeks ago, and I'm just now getting around to blogging about it), I've instituted the Wedding Weight Loss Challenge.
A few years ago, I participated in the Holiday Weight Loss Challenge started by another blogger, and it worked wonders for me.
The rules:
Post your starting weight. (150)
Post your current weight. (146)
Post your goal weight. (125 - 130, I haven't exactly decided)
Post your prize to yourself. (a tattoo - I think. The details of which will be shared at a later date)
Then post your current weight each week. If you reach your goal weight, you get your prize.
Simple right?
So, I've decided that since it worked so well for me last time I did this, I'm going to start it back up again. The day that I returned from our cruise I got on the scales (and about fainted), so that is what I'm using as my starting weight. Like I said I actually started a few weeks ago, so I've already lost a few lbs. I've settled on Wednesday as my weigh-in day, so I'll try to remember to update each week. If I forget, someone get on my case and remind me!
Anyone want to join me?
So far I have recruited one of my bridesmaids who is on a mission to "Lose 30 by her 30th" So, she's on board with me, which makes it so much easier to have someone else to commiserate with or celebrate with, as the case may be.
Let the losing begin!

I am totally on board with you!!!! I gained about 10-15 lbs since the summer while we were living with joeys grandmother waiting on our house to be built and seriously ate fast food for 3 meals a day. So none of my clothes fit me either. I started the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and am on day 6 so far. Havent weighed myself so not sure if lost any weight but havent completely changed what im eating. I usually weigh myself of Sundays so I will post what I weight then. My goal is to be 130-135. And I have 73 days until the wedding!!!!!
Yes!! YES!!! Sign me up. I am so disgusted. I weighed in the 130's for the majority of my young adult life. Then I entered the 140's which actually was a much healthier weight for me. Then by the time I neared age 30 I squeaked over the 170 mark. Yikes! When I got engaged I was 166 and on my wedding day 149. It's been over two years and I've yet to see that weight since. I'm hovering at 159-161. Now I'm trying to lose about 10-15 pounds before getting pregnant. Sign me up! We can all do this!
I know you can do it!!!
I used to work as a bridal consultant... and we would always do the opposite of what this lady told you. It is much easier to take a dress in, than find enough to let out... BUT... you won't have to worry about it either way because you're going rock this challenge and fit in to that dress perfectly!!!
You'll do awesome!
I have 31 days until my wedding. I still have a very, very stubborn 4 lbs to go since October. Now I am slowly getting ready training for the Chicago Marathon - I hope that it will make it easier.
Good luck!
Good luck!! I would love to get on board. I'm just not very good at losing weight or really figuring out how to do it. Any tips? I'm doing pilates and I have Jillian's 30 day shred. I might participate!
Since I lost my job, I've lost about 10 pounds. I can't see the loss and my clothes don't seem to fit any differently but the scale is my bestest friend ever for saying I've lost weight.
I haven't done anything differently probably except eating one meal a day now.
I used to be on the Depo-Provera birth control shots and gained up the wazoo on that like overnight. I could feel it packing on and changed my diet to eat considerably healthier. Didn't work so I vomitted up my food each day. (TMI, sorry!) I kept gaining even then so I finally got off the shot but it seems to have changed my metabolism completely. I don't lose weight easily at all.
I wish you luck and hope you meet your goal!
Ummm, I'll just watch. No, this is not a bag of potato chips right by my keyboard.
Go Go Go you can do it!!!
Count me in too! I need a push. Starting weight 158 #'s. Goal is 9 lbs lost by the wedding cruise and 5 #'s before I go shopping for my mother of the bride's dress about May 1st.
